March 2015 Quilts for Anchor House

We have an incredible opportunity to provide some wonderful support and comfort to a new charitable organization in the Valley!  The Anchor House is a safe, supportive home for single moms and their kids to receive hope and healing.  This is their mission:

The Anchor House will serve single moms that are in need of a loving and supportive community. The Anchor House provides support and assistance to pregnant and single mothers to help develop the appropriate skills to recover from poverty, homelessness, and difficult circumstances. Each mom will have a personalized goal-setting program designed for her family to become self-sufficient and break out of the cycle of poverty. Women must be pregnant or have at least 1 child in their custody (under age of 5) and can stay for up to 1 year.

The construction and renovation of the house itself is currently underway, though a partnership with Habitat for Humanity.  Our guild has an incredible to help out!  In the words of the manager of the project:

“One of the desires of my heart has been to offer the children who enter our home a pillow or quilt that is their own – not only during their stay Anchor House, but also after they leave us.  Snuggled up in that quilt, we can provide new and lasting memories of family with them.  And I think your quilts can become a symbol for each child of the larger family outside our home that loves and cares about him or her.”

How amazing is that?

We can pitch in by donating twin sized and baby sized quilts.  They are hoping that the first families will be moving into the house in June, so we have a little time (but not much!) to get some handmade comfort sent their way.

I will be gladly collecting quilts at each guild meeting, and coordinating with Anchor House to deliver them.  Thank you so much for considering participating in this giving opportunity!
