Fat Quarter Swap

With so many fabric sales going on right now it seemed like the perfect time to remind everyone about the fat quarter swap taking place at the December meeting (Saturday, December 20th 12pm at ETC).

There are three swaps happening and you can participate in as few or as many as you like. For each one cut 2 yards of fabric into 8 fat quarters. What you will go home with is a bundle consisting of one of your fat quarters and 7 others. To ensure a mix of colors for the solids there are sign ups here: SignUpGenius.com (http://www.signupgenius.com/go/20f0e4eaeaf2baaf85-december). Passcode: PHXMQG.

– Text Prints: black, white, off-white (examples on our Text Prints Pinterest board)
– Solid Pastel: label with brand and color way
– Solid Jewel Tone: label with brand and color way

With your 2 yards of fabric here is how to get those 8 fat quarters:

First, cut the yardage into 4 half yard (18 inch) sections. You will be cutting from selvage to selvage.

Second, cut each half yard section into two pieces (the fabric is commonly already folded in half making the crease line a good place to cut).

Last, label your fabric with the brand and color way. There will be some blank labels at the meeting if anyone needs them. The text prints don’t have to be labeled but it is helpful for the solids.

Don’t forget that we will also be having our end of the year potluck! Signups are on PerfectPotluck.com (coordinator: Bobman; password: PHXMQG)

August Meeting in Photos

A few weeks ago we had the largest turnout this year for the August guild meeting. Everyone gathered at ETC in Mesa for potluck lunch (yum!) and Demo Day! Eight members demonstrated various techniques.

The meeting started with the guild business and the very serious business of congratulating President Michelle Hart on being one of three winners of the MQG Michael Miller Challenge. Bonnie also talked to the group about American Made Brand fabric.

Before the demos began the Vitamin D Bee met and Mini Quilt Swap participants had the big reveal and opened their mini quilt from their secret partner.

For Vitamin D Bee Sarah received her Ansonia blocks.

Many happy swappers pose with their new mini quilts.

Then it was off to enjoy potluck and take in the demonstrations.

June Mug Rug Swap

At our next meeting in June we will be swapping Mug Rugs. If you would like to participate you will need to create one mug rug sized between 4″x6″ and 6.5″x10.5″ that is made with a top, batting, backing, and binding. We have created a Mug Rug Inspiration board on the PHXMQG Pinterest page to help you get the creativity flowing…go check it out!

So if you plan to participate be sure to bring one mug rug to the June meeting to swap. Also note that the business portion of the June meeting will be short in order to make sure there is plenty of time for guild members to participate in the cross stitch quilting class.

April Swap – Potholders

Hello hello! A big thank-you to those who came out on the 15th to the sew-in. It was a lot of fun and so many inspiring projects going on. Don’t forget that this Saturday we are having a meet-up at the Arizona Quilters Guild show in Mesa.

Next month we will be back at Scrapbooks ETC and one activity will be our second swap of the year. The theme is potholders! Fun and functional little projects can be just right for trying out a new block or technique. Create and bring a quilted potholder (size is up to you but just be sure it is functional) and let’s swap!

We’ve started a Pinterest board full of inspiration to get you started. There is also a thread over in our group on the MQG Community site if you want to chat about favorite tips or techniques.
